Does anybody know of an older person looking for a wee doggy companion? One of my friends has come to the very difficult decision to rehome her much loved little dog. Jodie is a 13 year old terrier and NEEDS someone who is home most of the day as she gets very upset when left. She'd be a perfect companion for an elderly person as she's very loving once she gets to know a person and bonds very strongly to her owners. I spend a few hours with her every Friday when her owners are out and she's a great wee dog, happy and energetic! From her current owners:
"I am very sad to say that we have made the decision to rehome our wee doggy. When we got her she was 6kg over weight, untrained, a aggressive, unsocialised and had bladder issues (all things that were undisclosed by the SSPCA). An older dog who has past that we are unsure of, means she has very very bad separation anxiety so we can't leave her alone without her howling or peeing or pooing all over the house. We kind of muddled along for the past year, spent a fortune on vet bills and and tried different things including an animal behavourist but the final straw was a neighbour complaining to the sspca about her howling. Funnily enough, they are who we got her from and when i called about all her issues their only suggestion is that they would PUT HER DOWN!! Certainly not what you would expect from an animal chairty who get a lot of public funding! Any way, they told me if i didn't want that i should put her on Gumtree!! Again, not what you'd expect from them (i immediately cancelled my monthly donation to the Sspca now that they are actively encouraging selling your dog to unvetted people on Gumtree!). The thing is we wanted to keep jodie until they found a home so's not to use up their resources and again they said they could not do this, that she would have to go back into kennels!
So this leaves me in a horrible position were we must try and vet possible new homes ourself. If anyone out there knows someone looking for a pooch and they are either retired or stays at home all the time or can take the dog with them wherever they go then please ask them to consider wee jodie. She is full of energy, fun and knows lots of tricks! She is a great wee dog who just can't handle being left alone for even short periods of time. We would give the new owners everything they need including beds, bowls, coats, collars etc. She can be a tad grumpy so she wouldn't be good for a home with young children.
Please share this if you can so we can try and find her the right home for her last few years."
